Update to Class Schedule, 12/8-12/12

Note the following changes to this week's class activities:

Wednesday, 12/10 - Review day, wrap-up module on South Africa

Thursday, 12/11 - Field Trip or in-class assignment about the UN

Friday, 12/12 -  Quiz based on Apartheid reading packets and vocabulary.

In Class: Complete role-play

Homework, Due Friday:  Vocabulary:  Find and highlight the terms.  Define them in your notebook or on flashcard app.   Identify context – explain how the term relates to South Africa.

**Alternative Assignment, due Monday:  IF you did not fully participate in the role-play and/or did not earn an acceptable grade for the task, your alternative assignment is to write a 1-2 page essay based on the reading and debate.   In your brief essay, summarize each of the three options.  Select the option you most agree with and explain why you believe it is the right course for South Africa.  Consider the impact of what has already taken place (prior to 1961), your future vision for South Africa and how you think the Apartheid government will respond.  Defend your position using facts and excerpts from the text. 


Friday & Monday, 12/5 & 12/8
In Class:  Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom

Homework, DUE Tuesday:  Read, highlight and annotate Epilogue

After a close reading of the text select ONE of the following tasks to complete:

a)     Respond in full sentences to study guide questions.

b)    Select any combination of 3 questions from the advanced study guide and respond in a 1 page essay.  Questions can be answered in separate paragraphs – but you must link the ideas together.

c)     Read several excerpts from Steve Biko.  Select any two to analyze.  Use the prompts (on separate worksheet) to guide your analysis of each selection.
